The process by which adults formally join the Catholic Church has traditionally been referred to as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). In November of 2021, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops approved a new translation of the process and its corresponding curriculum, and will now be known as the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA). We expect to have the new translation before classes begin in Fall.
The new name applies both to the process by which one enters the Church and the book that contains the ritual text and prayers for those steps. The OCIA process includes the same rites as RCIA such as the Rite of Entrance to the Catechumenate and the Rite of Sending, which both occur at the parish level, and the Rite of Election, which occurs at the cathedral with the bishop. By making the entire process an "Order," the catechumen or candidate understands the rites received in church or at the parish are just one part of the ongoing journey of discipleship that will culminate with Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist-- usually during the Easter Vigil -- but will continue throughout their lives.

Our Saint Ambrose Parish Religious Education team collaborates with our parents to teach our youngest parishioners about our Catholic faith. As Mark wrote, “When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.’ (Mark 10:13-16)” Our Sunday School programs will run from September through the end of April, with highlights of confirmation in the fall and first communion in the spring.
Please click on the button below to find out more information regarding how the program prepares the students for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit during our weekly classes. Each week we teach the children to grow and begin to understand their Catholic faith. The goal is for them to flourish in their loving relationship with God, and as they become adults, serve lovingly in our Catholic Church.
The purpose of this group is to enhance spiritual growth through discussion of books, films and articles that encourage the deepening of our relationship with God. These sharings are meant to draw us to the awareness of our responsibility to bring to life the Gospel in our parish and in the world and to discover God in our relationship with others.
Currently, an SOS ZOOM session is being held weekly Sunday at 1:00 pm. Contact Paul Rahn at [email protected] or 269-343-8234 to get added to the ZOOM list.
Please feel free to join us for a uplifting discussion.
